An island thief has been fined a total £1,150 at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

The court heard Alister Macaulay of 6 Druim nan Curracag, Callanish, Lewis, stole a computer console from a house in Carloway in 14 March.

Four days later, the 32-year-old shoplifted two bottles of wine from the Cromwell Street Co-op, the court was told.

Macaulay who admitted both charges was fined £400 and £750 respectively.

Sheriff David Sutherland allowed him to pay at £20 a week but warned he would go to prison if any instalment was missed.
