A Lewis man has been placed on the sex offenders register after he admitted describing sexual acts to two boys under 16 years.

At Stornoway Sheriff Court lawyer Angus Macdonald said Malcolm Mackenzie Macleod of Glean Dubh, Newmarket, “regrets very much he entered into the discussion with these children.”

He added: “There was a certain amount of encouragement from these children and he responded. He accepts he should not have done.”

Sheriff David Sutherland said it was “with some hesitation” he would not impose a jail sentence.

He ordered the 69-year-old to be registered as a sex offender for three years.

He also banned him from being in company with minors unless adults are present.

In addition, Macleod was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work to be completed within 12 months.
