An island man has received a 13 month prison sentence following a series of assaults
and incidents of threatening behaviour.
Shaun Macleod of Stornoway admitted four charges in total at Stornoway Sheriff Court
including assaulting a woman to the danger of her life in 2015 by compressing her
neck and constricting her breathing.
The 39-year-old also pleaded guilty to assaulting a youngster on different dates
over a seven year period by hitting and pinning them against a wall.
He also accepted acting in a course of threatening and abusive behaviour spanning
ten years including shouting and swearing, making abusive and threatening comments,
threaten to kill himself, throw a chair at a female, throw a can of beer and push
her.
Macleod pleaded guilty to making abusive remarks on various occasions between 2014
and 2021, including challenging a young person to a fight, and making threats towards
a female.
The case was previously due to be heard in front of a jury in Stornoway last month
but Macleod entered a guilty plea to four charges at the last minute.
When Macleod returned to court for sentencing Sheriff Gordon Lamont instructed he
should be sent to jail.
