Islander in court after break-up              8/10/14

A man who caused a disturbance at his ex-girlfriend house after she broke off their relationship landed in court today.

Michael Mitchell of Bragar House, Bragar, Lewis, pleaded guilty at Stornoway Sheriff Court to assaulting his former partner by grabbing her hand and trying to take a mobile phone off her as she was phoning the police about him.

He also admitted punching a 42-year-old man - who happened to there and removed Mitchell outside - in the face on 25 September.

Lawyer Angus Macdonald said an argument flared up after Mitchell went to her home to try and salvage the relationship.

Sheriff Donald Sutherland fined the 23-year-old a total of £800 and warned him he faced prison if he failed to keep up with the £20 per week installments.
