A man who caused a disturbance during New Year celebrations has appeared in court.

Stornoway Sheriff Court heard Joe Rankin of Seaview, Point, Lewis, was asked to leave the An Lanntair arts centre in Stornoway at 1.30am on the first of January.

Procurator fiscal Robert Weir told the court police attended and the 29-year-old used abusive language towards officers.

Lawyer Angus Macdonald told the court his client - who pleaded guilty to the offence - had “unfortunately too much to drink on New Year’s Day” and wished to “apologise profusely for his behaviour.”

Sheriff David Sutherland fined him £400 to be paid at £25 per week.
