Small businesses operating across the Western Isles are being encouraged to participate in a survey about operating in the islands.

The Federation of Small Business (FSB) will incorporate the feedback into a response to a consultation for a proposed new law .

An Islands Bill has been introduced to the Scottish Parliament and is currently being considered by MSPs.

The FSB’s survey aims to ensure that it understands the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats associated with doing business on a Scottish island.

Andy Willox of the FSB said: We're keen to make sure that the views of businesses operating on our islands are heard in this debate.

“Clearly, Scotland's many populated islands - spread from Arran to Unst - vary enormously in size and character, so it is very important that we get as many responses, from as many islands as possible, to enable us to build a complete picture.”

The survey is at www.smartsurvey.co.uk
