Island bank avoids closure 26/3/14
The Stornoway branch of the Clydesdale bank has avoided closure under a sweeping
cost cutting restructuring exercise announced by the lender.
Its Portree branch will also continue to trade confirmed the bank after releasing
a list of 16 outlets for the axe in Scotland.
The Clydesdale and its sister company Yorkshire Bank are owned by National Australia
Bank.
These bank said the closures and a renew focus on digital and mobile banking will
move the banks in line with with the way customers are accessing banking services
The use of its branches has fallen by 30% over the last three years compared to a
40% rise in internet and mobile banking.
The Clydesdale said a strong branch network, better suited to delivering the services
customers want from them, remains at the heart of its strategy.
