Investigation continues into South Uist crash         10/9/14

Police inquiries are continuing into the death of a young man who died following a car crash on South Uist at the weekend.

Carl Macphee, 19, of Rhughasinish, Lochcarnan, died in hospital a few hours after the car carrying a group of teammates from the Iochdar Saints Football Club went off the road at Daliburgh around 8.40pm on Saturday.

A police spokesman said: “Five males within the vehicle were taken to Uist and Barra Hospital but sadly, as a result of his injuries from the collision, a 19 year-old male died.

 

“His next of kin have been informed.
 

“The other males within the vehicle, two aged 16 and one aged 19, were treated for minor injuries.

 

“A further 16 year-old male was treated for a minor head injury and was subsequently transferred to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow for observations and later released.”
