Island flights to and from Inverness face disruption today after a plane skidded off the runway after landing.

All 48 passengers and four crew onboard the Flybe flight arriving from Manchester left the aircraft safely and no-one was injured.

An airline spokesperson said: “Flybe can confirm that when taxiing at low speed at the end of the runway, having landed safely at Inverness Airport this morning, the wheels of the Q400 aircraft skidded on the surface of the airfield, causing it to slide on to the grass.

The airport is currently closed to aircraft. Originally the afternoon flights for Stornoway were delayed but later the airport said it was operating on time.

Highland and Islands Airport Ltd advise all passengers to travel to the airport and check-in as normal for any afternoon flights.
