An unidentified person entered a dwelling house in Keose, Isle of Lewis, at 1.30am on Friday.
The householder discovered the intruder within the house and on checking found £200 cash to be missing.
Police ask that anyone with any information contact Stornoway Police Station on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Police also remind householders of the importance of general security, such as locking doors, in and around properties.
