All sailings are cancelled on the Sound of Barra crossing due to a technical problem
with the vessel’s engine.
The breakdown occurred on Sunday morning and the vessel is expected to be out of
action until Tuesday or Wednesday at least.
CalMac said it is making arrangements for specialist engineers to travel to the ship.
A timeline for repairs will not be known until they assess the extent of the situation.
They are expected to arrive later today and an update on a repair plan is to be provided
this afternoon.
CalMac said attempts to charter a vessel to cover the outage have been unsuccessful.
There is the possibility of sending relief vessel, MV Loch Bhrusda, up from Mallaig.
However, a gale forecast to impact the area prevents her from departing the mainland
until Tuesday morning.
Most of Sunday’s sailings were axed while no crossings will take place today. Service
for tomorrow is cancelled up to lunchtime and possibly beyond, depending on repairs.
Tuesday afternoon and evening sailings - including the MV Isle of Mull connecting
link - remain at heightened risk of disruption.
