An injured man has been airlifted to hospital after a bad fall in the Uig district of Lewis.

The elderly man slipped and fell while exploring on clifftops around Mealasta this afternoon.

Stornoway coastguard helicopter flew the casualty directly to hospital in Stornoway.

There is no word on his condition.

Meanwhile, a stricken fishing boat with one person onboard was towed into Stornoway after taking on water off Kebboch Head in Pairc.

Stornoway lifeboat took the small craft under tow on Thursday evening, calling in at Loch Odhairn, Gravir, for shelter to pump out some of the incoming seawater.

The same night, Leverburgh lifeboat launched to a different emergency when a boat reported engine failure off Skye. The casualty was taken under tow by another vessel and the lifeboat stood down.
