Independence and WD40             23/9/14

Sir,

I see many politicians and commentators proclaiming the Referendum success of the extension of the vote to the minimum age of 16. No doubt they are right.

However, as I found out today while using an automated till in a DIY store, those 16 year olds still won't be allowed to buy WD40 in an aerosol can until they are 21.

They can be trusted to make informed decisions on weighty matters of currency union, fiscal policy, nuclear weapons, public debt and independence.

They can also be trusted to vote on such matters and make judgments on the merits of the case for and the case against put to them by career politicians, but not to ease the rusted chain on a bike lest they choose to spray the WD40 up their nose instead.

Funny old world.
