Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar has been honoured for the improvement in its revenues and benefits service.

 

The Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation Awards awards are the benchmark by which excellence and progress in public sector revenue collection and benefits administration is measured.

 

The Comhairle's service was highly commended its improved performance across the board.

 

Over the past four years, the council's revenues and benefits team have delivered better outcomes for customers, reduced processing times, increased money collected and reduced the number of staff across all levels in the team.

 

The team has also risen to the challenges faced when delivering welfare reform taking on new work with limited impact on performance.

 

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar leader, Angus Campbell, said: “I am delighted that the hard work of the team has been recognised at national level.

 

"It shows that services delivered in the islands can be amongst the best the public sector has to offer.

 

"The most important aspect of this achievement is the significant improvement in the quality of service revenues and benefits customers, some of whom are experiencing financial hardship, receive.”
