Another cold night is in store, with many roads falling below freezing, according to the Met Office.

Wintry showers will continue to feed in from the north, bringing an ice risk to any untreated surfaces across northern Scotland, especially over higher ground.

Higher routes in particular may also see some snow accumulating.

Motorists should be aware driving conditions may be tricky, especially over the hills.

Forecasters said the "arctic air mass remains in place, bringing unusually cold conditions for this far into the spring."

Heavy wintry showers today will bring rain, sleet, hail and snow, occasionally reducing visibility, but away from the higher ground, any settling snow will probably be very temporary until this evening.

After the sun goes down, lying snow becomes more likely.

Given the number of wintry showers today, many roads will have less chance to warm up, and may then remain wet until temperatures fall below freezing overnight.
