There is a risk of ice as temperatures fall over the Western Isles tonight and into Saturday morning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert of ice with zero temperatures across much of the region.

Motorists should be aware of the risk of some difficult driving conditions.

Ice may be present, particularly on roads and paths wet from earlier rain showers.

Throughout Saturday, it is expected to remain colder in Lewis and Harris compared to Uist and Barra.

A Met Office forecaster said: “Snow may accumulate over higher ground, with the level varying with time, but the main hazard is expected to be ice forming on untreated surfaces.”
