Last Saturday when Storm Dennis was battering the country with gale force winds and rain, a fault on the local network caused a power cut in North Uist.

The electricity went off at 9am but thanks to the hard work of hydro engineers, the fault was fixed and the power was back on by 10.30am.

One group that was particularly happy was the organisers of that morning’s sale of work in Taigh Sgìre Sholais.

As a way of thanking the engineers, the team behind the event invited them in to sample the home baking and hot drinks.

Sandra MacIntosh, one of the local volunteers, said: “The guys did a great job restoring the power so quickly. We had done a lot of preparations for the sale of works in the previous weeks and we were so happy and relieved when the power was restored in time for the function starting.”

Mike Sutherland, one of the hydro squad, said: “We’re always happy to help the local communities on the islands and we appreciated the hot drink and tasty cakes on such a cold, stormy day.”
