Power has been restored to a number of properties in North Uist which were without supplies since yesterday evening.

A power cut on Barra has also been repaired this afternoon.

Energy firm SSE said wind gusts over 85mph were recorded in the Western Isles.

As forecast, gale-force winds have tracked slowly across the region, starting in the Western Isles in the early hours of Thursday with the storm moving from west to east throughout the day.

The local network stood up well to the impact of Storm Caroline with a handful of faults affecting around 3000 properties.

A fire damaged pole knocked out over 1100 homes in the Point district of Lewis on Thursday.

The pole was isolated and supplies rerouted for the majority of houses.

SSE staff with support from contractors’ D Mackay and Sons installed a new pole and reconnected the last 250 homes by 8pm

A power cut in West Tarbert in Harris was also fixed.

Earlier, supplies were restored to 2100 properties affected by a power cut in Shawbost, Carloway, Callanish, North Lochs, South Lochs and parts of Uig and Bernera.

Energy firm SSE moved additional engineers and equipment into the Western Isles ahead of the storm.
