SSE has moved additional engineers and equipment into the Western Isles on Saturday ahead of a fresh storm moving in from the Atlantic.

Extra resources arrived earlier in the week but the prospect of a further bout of severe weather prompted the arrival of more manpower and mobile generators by ferry today.

SSEN, the distribution division of the firm which employs the hydro engineers to deal with power cut repairs, remains on yellow alert Storm Conor is expected to bring more high winds and risk of lightning to the north-west coast and Northern Isles from late Sunday night and through the course of Monday.

Dale Cargill of SSEN said: “The safety of our customers and engineers will remain a priority as we now look to prepare for the high winds and risk of lightning that Storm Conor is expected to bring.

“We are acutely aware of the time of year and the increasing concern this brings and would like to reassure our customers we will be doing all we can to keep disruption to a minimum.”
