Violent weather forecasted to blast Western Isles        11/12/13

Winds over hurricane force are forecasted to blast the Western Isles at the weekend

The Met Office warns that expected to over 80mph gusts can hit exposed areas with heavy rain likely.

It said there could be with severe gales or violent storms in the north and west.

People should be aware there could be disruption to travel and outdoor events.

The Western Isles is in the front line for a severe gale coming in from the Atlantic on Saturday.

The weather will be blustery at times up to Saturday then calm down for a short spell until a vigorous depression is expected to arrive.

The low pressure system is due to run over the Hebrides on Saturday before affecting most of the Scottish mainland with the possibility that northern England and parts of Wales could also be affected.

The very strong winds may last into early Sunday in places before easing.

At this stage there remains uncertainty regarding the extent of the strongest winds and so the Met Office advises people to look out for updates to this alert in the coming days.

Locally, the wind may not start to rise until late Saturday morning with high southerly winds in the afternoon. There will be a storm in all parts of the Western Isles with very strong gusts. Uist and Barra are set to experience the worst of the conditions.
