Hurricane speed gusts recorded                 6/10/14

 

Gusts of 84 mph were recorded in South Uist during the storm.

 

Winds had changed from a southerly direction as the gale intensified overnight.

 

In the early hours of Monday, 45mph to 50mph winds were blasting from the east.

 

Gusts of hurricane speeds were measured at the rocket range in South Uist.

 

It touched 82 mph at 2am with 84 mph recorded two hours later.  

 

The wind was still gusting at 79mph at breakfast time and continued to blow strongly during the morning.

 

The Skye Bridge was shut to all vehicles, delaying traffic for the Lochmaddy and Tarbert ferries, due to high winds affecting driving conditions.
