Local police officer Alanna Goodard was first to cross the finish line in this year’s Women’s Cancer Challenge, held on Saturday in Stornoway.

The 21-year-old achieved a time of 22 minutes and 31 seconds over the three miles route.

Katy Mackenzie finished just 14 seconds later while Lisa Weir clocked up a time of 23 minutes and five seconds.

An estimated 400 women took part in the run through the Lews Castle grounds. All funds raised go to the Lewis branch of Cancer Research UK.

The aim of the event is to encourage women to become more active with the long term health benefits that this brings as well as having a great day out and raising money for a brilliant cause.

The event is non-competitive with young and old either running,  jogging or walking to the mouth of the River Creed and back - making it the largest sporting participation event in the Western Isles.
