A man who caused a bottle of HP sauce to hit a woman on the face received a 12 month community payback order when sentenced at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

Daniel Trafford of Carloway, Lewis, who previously admitted the assault, was also ordered to undertake 80 hours of unpaid community service work after he admitted the assault which occurred in November.

Trafford’s lawyer said he suffered stress over business problems and an argument escalated resulting in the offence.

Procurator fiscal Karen Smith told the court Trafford was angry when he swiped his hand across the kitchen table, causing the plastic bottle to strike the woman.

She suffered a bleeding nose and swollen lips as a result.
