Two men have appeared in court after a first floor flat on Plantation Road in Stornoway was broken into.

 

John Rush of The Acres hostel, Island Road, Stornoway, pleaded guilty to housebreaking and stealing a lamp and a pair of scissors on 24 February.

 

The 34-year-old also admitted assaulting a police sergeant by attempting to headbutt him and spitting on him.

 

Rush will be sentenced on Friday.

 

His accomplice, Steven Ogilive, of 25 Plantation Road, was found guilty after trial at Stornoway Sheriff Court of breaking into a neighbour's home with intent to steal.

 

Ogilive was sentenced to a two year community payback order which includes undertaking 200 hours of unpaid community service work. He has been tagged for 12 months and has also been banned from drinking alcohol and taking illicit drugs.
