Hospital ward closed due to Covid outbreak

Medical Ward 2 in Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway has been closed to new admissions due to cases of coronavirus.

Measures have been put in place to reduce the spread of the virus within the ward with a problem assessment group established to monitor the situation.

Friends and relatives of inpatients in the ward are urged only to visit if necessary.

NHS Western Isles said: “This is to ensure our patients are protected, but also to ensure that visitors do not contract Covid-19.

“Please ensure you do not visit patients if you feel unwell or have experienced symptoms in the last 48 hours. Visitors should ensure they wash their hands before and after visiting.”

People are asked not to visit under any circumstances if they develop symptoms.
