► Concerns for horse’s welfare
A controversial horse which lives in the living room of a private house in Lewis has been evicted.
A council raid at high noon today saw the local authority effectively taking the adult Connemara pony into care.
The animal -
Ms Noble was in her house, apparently unaware of what was happening, when two very
experienced local equestrian experts plus a helper -
They parked round the corner and, bridle in hand, the pair of horse handlers walked
the short distance to where the horse was grazing -
The horse happily trotted up the road with them and quietly went into the horse box parked at the end of the street, to the rear of Back School.
Ms Noble was wailing outside her house when her seized horse was driven away.
Two Western Isles Council animal welfare officers appeared on the scene prior to the arrival of the horse transport and supervised the whole eviction.
The whole operation went more smoothly than expected and was over within about ten minutes.
It is understood that the council had requested police officers be on hand as they may have expected Ms Noble to obstruct or object to the horse’s removal.
However, the event was done and dusted by the time they arrived.
The council -
A vet has certified that the horse’s welfare is of concern and the house is presently not a suitable place to keep it.
Now, the council intend to go to court to seek a rehoming order so it can transfer the animal to a new legal owner.
