A Western Isles army cadet instructor with the 1st Battalion the Highlanders has been recognised for his dedicated and outstanding service.
Major Norman Macleod from Gress, Lewis, has been made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

An Army Cadet Force spokesperson said: “Major Macleod has been an inspirational youth leader.
“His selfless commitment, tireless energy, enthusiasm and devotion the Western Isles Company has ensured its continued development.
“During his decades of service, he has provided life opportunities and helped to develop many hundreds of cadets and adult volunteers.”
Western Isles Company’s training officer Captain Alexander Maciver gave his “warmest congratulations” to Major Macleod.
He added: “This is a richly deserved honour to a man who was taken on strength in 1978 after a successful cadet career, and who has served Western Isles Company and the wider organisation through thick and thin in an unbroken record of selfless commitment ever since.”
