A gale warning has been issued for the Hebrides and west coast areas.
The Met Office says chilly conditions are set to change with a rise in temperatures and a move to more unsettled weather.
On New Year’s Eve, winds will increase to gale force eight, rising to severe gale force for a period later forecasts the Met Office.
It will be breezy over Wednesday with gusts between 40 to 50mph likely leading to rough seas and a swell in the Minch.
Rain is expected through the afternoon and evening of New Year's Eve.
This is likely to become lighter as midnight approaches and should have eased across Western Scotland.
Temperatures look likely to hold up above freezing. A very mild 10°C is expected though wind chill will make it feel around 5°C in the islands.
Through the course of New Year’s Day, it will gradually turn wet and windy across
the whole of the country -
