Scottish Labour has criticised the standard of the new Higher exams this year, with some pupils unable to finish the papers and leaving in tears.
Thousands of students and teachers maintain the maths and the biology exams were overly harsh and unlike the specimen papers.
Over 17,000 pupils have signed a petition in protest at the Maths exam being too difficult.
Labour demands the Scottish Government appoints an external expert to review the issue.
Deputy Labour leader Kezia Dugdale called the issue a “farce” while urging “divine intervention” from the First Minister to “sort out” the appeals system and the new exams.
Ms Dugdale added: “Teachers told this parliament it could be a catastrophe. Head teachers warned of ‘a disaster.’
“They asked to delay the new Highers. Ministers chose to ignore these warnings.”
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said no student would be disadvantaged if exam body, SQA, concluded the exam was over demanding
A SQA spokeswoman said they would assess how the exam performed and whether it was harder than intended before setting the pass marks required for each grade.
