Isles MP Angus Brendan MacNeil has welcomed confirmation crofters will receive around €32 million under Common Agricultural Policy reforms.

The higher sum compares to the €19 million the crofting counties received in 2011.

Angus MacNeil said: “This is good news for our crofters and shows that the SNP Scottish Government is listening to the crofting community.

“Especially, as we know crofting and farming in Scotland receives one of the worst funding allocations in the EU for any agriculture, due to successive UK approaches. We must make sure that this money comes to the islands which will then circulate in our communities.”
