HERITAGE OFFICER (5239), SGOIL LIONACLEIT, BENBECULA

37 hours per week, fixed term to 30 September 2016

£20,660 - £23,052 per annum

 

This is an exciting time for heritage services in the Outer Hebrides.  A £13.5 million project led by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund will create a new museum and archive as part of the redevelopment of the historic Lews Castle.

 

The Heritage Officer will be a member of the Heritage Team and will work with colleagues in the delivery of the objectives and outputs of the Comhairle’s Heritage Service.  

 

You will develop, deliver and build capacity in projects, programmes, exhibitions, activities, and learning programmes as a means to increase participants’ understanding of the heritage of the Outer Hebrides, Gaelic language and culture.  

 

Working in partnership with stakeholders and partners you will contribute to a strategic approach to the planning and delivery of heritage services, to encourage increased use and enjoyment of museum and archive venues, collections and services across the Outer Hebrides, to develop good practice and raise the profile of heritage activities across the Outer Hebrides.

 

You should be educated to Higher level or have an equivalent level of experience.

You must have:  experience of developing and delivering projects and activities for a diverse range of audiences and activities;  experience of working partnership with external agencies, organisations and venues;  a broad understanding and appreciation of Museums, Archives or Archaeology;  excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills;  the ability to read, write and speak Gaelic to a good standard.  A current driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.

Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance.
