World's “most enthusiastic man” at science festival 13/3/13
Science enthusiasts throughout the Western Isles are gearing up for this year’s Hebridean
Science Festival taking place next week.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Quentin Cooper, presenter of BBC
Radio 4’s ‘Material World’, who has described as being "the world's most enthusiastic
man" and "an expert on everything from pop music to astrophysics."
Mr Cooper is also credited with an energy and ability to “enliven the dullest of
topics” with his wit and enthusiasm.
Events for school pupils will take place in The Nicolson Institute, Sir E Scott and
Sgoil Lionacleit, while the wider public will also have the opportunity to hear Quentin
Cooper at free public events in An Lanntair, with a free Family Fun Science Day at
Sgoil Lionacleit.
The festival this year is being supported by the Include-Us project: Include-Us Support
Worker, DJ Macleod, said: “The Festival will focus on the subjects; Science, Technology,
Engineering and Maths. It really is vital that the young of the Western Isles keep
a creative, scientific edge.
“If you lose that, then you lose aspects which help create a strong economy. Having
said that, there is obviously a lot of fun involved in science too, which we will
be showcasing in this year’s events. Science is something that applies at all levels,
in all walks of life and everyone is welcome to attend.”
