Route announced for Hebridean adventure race

30 May 2016

Day one begins with a coastal ride from Benbecula to North Uist, followed by running and trekking on Eaval mountain, and a bike ride to the uninhabited tidal island of Vallay, followed by kayaking to Lochmaddy before cycling back to Benbecula for a night under the stars.

Participants head in the opposite direction on the second morning, riding down the west coast beaches, running and trekking on Beinn Mhor and Hecla, and kayaking off the stunning coast between South Uist and Eriskay.

This will be followed by an event party at the Polochar Inn.

Paul McGreal, from Durty Events, said shortcut options are built into the route on both days and the absence of "extremely tough" route choices means the the Heb will be "totally achievable and fun for all those taking part."

He added: "We've simply selected the best bits for an amazing but challenging adventure. That said, the course has been designed in such a way that you'll be able to push yourself if you are an experienced multi-sport athlete.

The route has been revealed for a new two-day, adventure race through Benbecula and Uist.

The Heb is a 120 mile multi-sport challenge taking place in September involving mountain biking, off-road over moorland and machair terrain as well as kayaking across lochs.
