Outbreaks of torrential rain may affect the Western Isles warns the Met Office.

A yellow “be aware” alert has been issued overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

Some intense downpours, perhaps thundery, are expected.

15 to 25 mm of rain may fall locally in an hour with as much as up to 50 mm falling by morning.

Isolated amounts of 70 mm of rain could fall across higher ground.

Some travel disruption should be expected through into the morning commute.

The rain will clear away eastwards during Wednesday morning.
