NHS Western Isles is cancelling all non-essential procedures and appointments for Wednesday as the severe weather bites.

It follows police advice to islanders not to travel unless their journey is essential with severe winds predicted to batter the islands.

Inpatient and outpatient appointments are affected as well as patients attending the day hospital.

GPs have been asked to cancel routine appointments. People should contact their doctor’s practice to confirm.

NHS Western Isles advise people not to visit patients in hospital - they can phone the hospital for updates instead.

In addition patient travel and the health board offices will be closed on Wednesday.

The Bosom Buddies breastfeeding support group has also been cancelled.
