Islanders are being warned of the dangers of the contents of two drums washed ashore in Barra.
A cordon has been placed around barrels of hazardous materials which floated onto the beach at Seal Bay.
Markings on the containers indicated they contain a unsafe chemical.
The comhairle said a specialist firm will be called in to dispose of the drums.
Council environmental health officers are monitoring the incident.
Barra Coastguard Rescue Team and the local fire service attended at the location.
