Sir,

In the present hard financial climate, where the Western Isles Council is continually wielding cutbacks on services - home care workers, streetlights going off early, cutbacks here, there and everywhere - yet somehow, from somewhere the council can wave a magic wand and conjure up the sum of £10,000, well, basically to feed a horse. The mind boggles.

And that is only the the sum so far. Who knows what the final figure will be. Who in the end pays for this - Mr &Mrs ratepayer?

It is quite astonishing that this has been allowed come so far. Does no one in the ‘White House’ on Sandwick Road even question the credibility of this.

Then again, maybe no one there is even permitted to question matters like this, which would make the place more ‘Kremlin’ like.

If this figure continues to spiral, we may have to bring a bale of hay each along to the council tax office along with our payment, to keep any imminent increase at bay.
