We are recruiting for a Freshwater Operative for our hatchery in Geocrab, to contribute to the careful rearing of salmon from egg through the fry, parr and smolt stages, prior to the transfer to sea. This varied and highly interesting role includes daily fish husbandry duties, environmental monitoring, health checks and size grading as the juvenile salmon develop.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and dedicated individual with a keen attention to detail. They will be comfortable working in a sometimes challenging outdoor environment, able to operate well as part of a small focused team and work flexibly to meet the demands of the job.
Previous freshwater aquaculture experience would be desirable. Strong technical aptitude or a scientific interest and knowledge would also be beneficial.
Hours are 40 per week, Monday to Friday plus weekend working and alarm call out duties on a rota basis, usually one in every three weeks. Due to the nature of Alarm Duty staff are required to stay within a 20 minute drive of the hatchery.
