Harris Heritage Projects: Short Contracts

£10-20 per hour dependent on skills, experience and nature of task to be undertaken.

As part of the Isle of Harris Landscape Partnership Scheme, HDL is working on a range of projects to engage community members and visitors in the history, archaeology, Gaelic language, culture, and natural heritage of the area.

We are now looking for people with a range of skills and experience to work on short contract to fulfil the following key tasks over the coming five months, in the run up to the completion of the programme in December 2013.

People who are only available to work part-time hours on one or more tasks are welcome to apply.

The first two tasks will involve reviewing and selecting from existing audio and written oral history material and gathering new material through informal interviews with local volunteers.

· Write up storylines on the people and places in the villages throughout Harris and Scalpay for use in the new Harris Heritage Trail Guide,  entitled ‘Discover Harris’, to be made available online and in published form.

· Write up oral history on a range of aspects of the Harris and Scalpay way of life, past and present. This will involve selecting direct passages from audio recordings and writing background narrative on the storyteller and the subject matter.  To be published as a book, and selected storylines to feature in online exhibitions on the new Isle of Harris website.

· To illustrate and inform both the above projects, using a portable scanner, collate and annotate digital copies of photos collected from community members throughout Harris and Scalpay.

· Research and write up visitor information on outdoor activities available locally to complement the Discover Harris Heritage Trail Guide, to be launched shortly on the new Isle of Harris website.
