The high-profile launch of the Harris Tweed Hebrides Ryder Cup collection at Gleneagles
last week has attracted world-wide interest.
Harris Tweed Hebrides has teamed up with
Edinburgh retailer Walker Slater to produce an exclusive 25-item collection which
will be sold through the Ryder Cup official web-site and a small number of approved
outlets as well as in the Ryder Cup Village when the event is held at Gleneagles
in September.
Brian Wilson, chairman of Harris Tweed Hebrides, said: “These great
images from the launch have gone round the world and there has been a tremendous
amount of interest in response. It is an excellent event to be associated with and
will further enhance the status of Harris Tweed."
The company is also supplying fabric
for the presentation uniforms at this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Mr Wilson said: "We are delighted to be official suppliers to both these great events
and the island economy can only benefit from the international exposure which will
be achieved."
The 25 piece collection includes classic mens’ and ladies’ hacking jackets and plus-fours,
flatcaps, Boston style traveler bags and a selection of accessories including wallets
and hipflask.
For the commission, Ken Kennedy, master designer at the Shawbost mill, specially
created “a new blue” which includes five dyes or shades of wool including turquoise
to reflect the colour of the Hebridean sea.
