The Harris Tweed Authority, in partnership with Harris Tweed Hebrides have worked with the local organisers of next week's Western Isles leg of the Commonwealth Games Queens Baton Relay to make 2,000 flags to give away to children attending the relay events up and down the island next week.

The flags showcase the official Glasgow 2014 Harris Tweed cloth, designed by Ken Kennedy from Harris Tweed Hebrides to reflect the hue's of our islands lochs, sea and skies. The cloth will be used in uniforms worn by games officials during the Glasgow events in August.

Jennifer Macdonald, the Harris Tweed Authority's information officer said: “The Harris Tweed Authority were pleased to get involved and are very grateful to our colleagues at Harris Tweed Hebrides for supporting the project through providing this beautiful cloth for the flags.

“It is fitting that all young people attending the relay events throughout the Western Isles will have something to take away and retain as a token of the event.”

A team of young willing volunteers interested in careers in fashion and textiles worked at the Harris Tweed Authority offices to make the flags.
