A top designer who uses Harris Tweed from the Carloway Mill on Lewis has picked up a prestigious gong in the Scottish Fashion Awards.
About half of the collection of Henry Holland, of House of Holland, uses tweed from the Isle of Lewis mill. It was up against formidable competition including the likes of Rag & Bone, Mulberry and DAKS.
It was a further boost for the mill to have tweed from Carloway featuring at the awards, where Samanatha Cameron, the wife of
Prime Minister David Cameron, was the guest of honour. Other guests included Lulu and Dame Shirley Bassey.
Henry Holland works closely with the Harris Tweed Textiles-
Henry said: “The use of heritage fabrics often form the starting point to my collections and I love exploring the history behind them.”
Ann MacCallum, managing director of the Carloway Mill, said they had worked closely with him to get the collections and patterns that Henry wanted.
“We congratulate Henry for this award which shows how much work we have been doing in the Scottish Fashion stakes.
Henry Holland’s creations in Harris Tweed have been on the catwalk at fashion shows
in Stornoway and he was said to have also stolen the show at London, Paris and Milan.
