SNP candidate for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Alasdair Allan pledged to help pursue the ongoing efforts to create a marina hub in North Harris.

As MSP in the last parliament, Alasdair was involved in helping bring funding agencies together to look at making this project a reality.

Alasdair Allan said he attended a meeting as a friend of efforts to bring marina activity to Tarbert and Scalpay. Harris is one of the most fragile local economies in the Western Isles, but a number of new enterprises hold out significant potential for the islands, not least the new distillery, and a revitalised Harris tweed industry.

“A marina would complement these and help bring much-needed income to the local economy. Everyone who is working locally to bring new yachting and tourist activity to the area is to be commended."

He said efforts with major funders have so far proved successful, and the meeting was hopefully the next step on the way to establishing the marina hub.
