“Severe hangover” drug sentence                 1/3/14

A Balivanich man is banned from drinking alcohol after his latest appearance at Stornoway Sheriff Court

Calum Macrury previously pleaded guilty to punching a police officer and trying to headbutt him in Scotland Street, Stornoway, on 13 Febuary. The 49-year-old was on bail at the time.

Macrury, whose address was given as Morrison House, 3 Lewis Street, Stornoway, was also tagged and given a 9pm to 6pm curfew for the next six months.

In addition to the drinking ban, Sheriff David Sutherland also instructed that Macrury should take Antabuse medication if requested by a doctor or his supervising officer. Symptoms similar to a severe hangover, headaches and vomiting are experienced if a patient drinks alcohol while on the tablets.

Macrury - who was previously banned from entering the Southern Isles - is also due to be sentenced at a later date for breaking a restraining order imposed by Lochmaddy Sheriff Court.

He previously accepted the harassment offence, that he tried to communicate with a woman he is banned from contacting by sending a letter via her relative.
