Required for our hatchery in Kishorn, Wester Ross, to contribute to the careful rearing of salmon from egg through the fry, parr and smolt stages, prior to the transfer to sea. This varied and highly interesting role includes daily fish husbandry duties, environmental monitoring, health checks and size grading as the juvenile salmon develop.
The successful candidates will be highly motivated and dedicated individuals with a keen attention to detail. They will be comfortable working in a sometimes challenging outdoor environment, able to operate well as part of a small focused team and work flexibly to meet the demands of the job.
Previous freshwater aquaculture experience would be desirable.
Strong technical aptitude or a scientific interest and knowledge would also be beneficial. In the Handyman/Freshwater Operative role, whilst undertaking some of the responsibilities listed above, the focus will be primarily on planned maintenance in and around the site including groundworks, joinery and brickwork and in particular the successful candidate will be adept at working with fiberglass.
Hours are 40 per week, Monday to Friday plus weekend working and alarm call out duties on a rota basis, usually one in every three weeks. Due to the nature of Alarm Duty staff are required to stay on site when on alarm duty and when on the weekend rota.
