Guernsey has been confirmed as the hosts of the international island games for 2021.

The Channel Island has twice been a former host of the games, once in 1983 and again in 2003.  Many of the facilities required are already built and are of an international standard.

Meanwhile, the Western Isles Island Games Association plan to take a squad of nearly 100 to the Sweden next summer to compete in the events which take place every second year.

Islanders will participate in athletics, badminton, mountain biking, road cycling, men’s and women’s football, golf, clay shooting, swimming and triathlon.

The Scottish Salmon Company have confirmed that they will be WIIGA’s main sponsor for the 2017 games.

The 2019 games are set for Gibraltar where road cycling, which was initially excluded, will now be one of the competitions.

However, cross country biking -  the sport where South Uist sisters, Kerry and Kirsty Macphee, won a haul of medals last time - will not take place.
