Volunteers are sought to hack down invasive gunnera in the Lews Castle grounds.

The plant is rampant across the grounds, quickly spreading and choking out other growth.

A group of volunteers are targeting the former private gardens area adjacent to the castle.

Volunteers should complete a registration form in advance and are asked to contact Jo Bagrie on jo.bagrie@stornowaytrust.org.uk or call 702002.

The initial work period is between 10am and noon with a break for a packed lunch at the Woodlands Centre before returning for an afternoon stint.

Gardening gloves will be provided and volunteers should wear long sleeves, long trousers and sturdy footwear.

Spades and lopers will also be provided though volunteers can take their own.
