Guiding star for Stornoway law firm still going strong after half a century

21 June 2022

Colleagues and friends gathered together at Stornoway law firm, Anderson MacArthur, recently to celebrate with Christine Macmillan who was marking 50 years as an employee of the firm.

Christine started as employed as an office junior at the age of 17, starting work on 4 June 1972, and has remained with the firm since then.

Throughout the changes in the firm, Christine remained a constant and has latterly worked as a paralegal undertaking conveyancing work.

In the early years she was a secretary to the late Douglas Kesting and the late John Young.

She also work under Ken MacDonald before he set up his own firm in the 1990s and, more recently, the late Simon Fraser.

Former and present colleagues gathered to mark her milestone achievement.

In typical Christine style, she did not want too much of a fuss and was surprised at the attention the occasion brought.

Christine said: “I do not think I could have predicted at 17 that I would still be working for Anderson MacArthur after 50 years.

“I have great memories of my years here and the friends I have made along the way.

“I was overwhelmed by the gathering to mark the occasion.”

Christine continues to serve the firm and does not plan to retire quite yet, although she keeps threatening to.

Margaret Mackay, director, director: “Christine has been a fantastic servant to Anderson MacArthur and this is a feat that will likely not be repeated.

“She is still keeping us all right, so there is certainly no pressure on her to retire.”
