Green deals fraud scam           14/2/14

Police and Trading Standards warn about bogus callers telephoning homeowners and claiming that they are entitled to £10,000 of funding for home improvements and that the improvements will be free.

The householder is asked to pay £149.99 up front for an energy performance assessment to be carried out.

The assessment is either never carried out or the work is undertaken but the householder does not receive the certificate required for the scheme.

There have also been suggestions that the bogus callers mention government grants but in reality they are offering a loan paid back through your electric bill which is part of the scheme.
