The Great Climb                 26/8/10

A TV programme broadcast live from Harris this weekend features two of the world’s top climbers Dave MacLeod and Tim Emmett climbing a new route on Sron Uladail, the UK’s largest overhanging cliff.

As well as a centrepiece live climb the programme, The Great Climb, will present   features highlighting the outstanding natural and cultural heritage of Harris.

These will include items on the work of the North Harris Trust; traditional boatbuilding skills; Gaelic worship; Amhuinnsuidhe Castle, Harris Tweed, traditional Gaelic song; and local archaeology. It will in effect showcase Harris and the Outer Hebrides to the world.

The event is being produced for the BBC by Triple Echo Productions, the company who also produce the popular Adventure Show. Triple Echo are very aware of the fragile nature of the site and have worked with the North Harris Trust to minimise any environmental impact.

The Great Climb will be transmitted on Sat 28th August from 1.30pm – 7pm on BBC2 Scotland and Sky Channel 990 (which can be accessed anywhere in Europe)

It will also be streamed live on the BBC’s website and will be on the BBC’s HD channel from 5pm to 7pm.
